Wow! I was just named the Best Wedding Photographer in South Africa for 2024/5. How incredible!? For over a decade, I’ve had the privilege of capturing weddings across South Africa and around the world. While doing that, I’ve also entered many competitions—earning some incredible wins! From a Top Vendor Wedding Award to numerous Admired in Africa Awards, and even becoming a Lexar ambassador, it’s been an amazing journey. I’m incredibly proud of every award I’ve received over the years!

I’ve always felt that “Best Wedding Photographer in South Africa” competitions tend to focus solely on images. You submit a few photos in different categories, and the judging is based entirely on those selections. But that approach overlooks so much of what makes a wedding photography business truly exceptional.

How do you present yourself to the world as a wedding photographer in South Africa? Do you have happy clients and glowing reviews? Do you run your business with integrity? And above all, does your entire portfolio reflect consistency and excellence?

The Prestige Awards for South African Wedding Photographers

Enter: The Prestige Awards! When they first reached out to me, I learned that this program isn’t industry-specific. Instead, it seeks out and recognizes outstanding small businesses across all sectors. Their goal is to highlight local businesses that demonstrate exceptional success and dedication.

What really caught my attention were the qualifying criteria that led to me being named South Africa’s Best Wedding Photographer. Candidates are nominated by clients or peers (how incredible is that?!), and a panel of expert industry judges then evaluate each nominee. In the end, they chose me as the winner based on:

• My website and publicly sourced information
• The quality of the work I produce (in totality, not just a few images)
• Consistency of my performance
• All available public reviews and testimonials
• My core values and services
• The branding and brand strength of my business
• My authenticity and presence on social media

Additionally, I didn’t have to pay to enter these awards. They are based entirely on nominations, although you can pay for a trophy or certificate if you want one. Other than that it is based on all of the things that matter most to me and because of that I am so thrilled to win this incredible award!

Building my business has meant long workdays and weekends, capturing hundreds of thousands of images, teaching, presenting, and sharing my heart with the world. I couldn’t have asked for a better ‘job’! Being crowned South Africa’s best wedding photographer is definitely the cherry on top!
