There is so much to say about this wedding, but the most important thing is… what an absolute blast!!! People travelled from all over the world to join Persi and Fran at their wedding and I can totally see why! They are super cool, full of fun, and cherish their friends and family above everything.

 

The couple were married in a quaint Greek Orthodox church called Panayia Ipapantis. How stunning is this church!? It is on a small island within a bay, and can only be accessed by a single small road which stretches between the land and church.

 

The moment when Persi first came into sight as her boat traversed the bay was amazing. Traditional island singers welcomed her in as Fran and his mom stood at the church in anticipation. Such a beautiful and emotional few minutes… most of us were in tears by the time Fran embraced his wife-to-be and presented her with her bouquet. And then the fun and games began… in amongst the very serious Greek Orthodox ceremony were so many laughs! The priest couldn’t get Fran’s full name right no matter how many times he said it (many, many times). A wasp nearly got hold of Nektarios, and as the Priest read the end of the apostolic reading of St Paul (specifically the words ‘Let the wife fear her husband’), Persi surprised everyone by stomping on Fran’s foot which is a traditional way for the bride to assert her… ahem… authority and gain the upper hand 🙂

 

That was just the beginning! An actual shower of rice (about 15kgs worth), informal sundowners at Gouvia Marina, and then the real party at a beach bar in Barbati called Piedra del Mar. Because this is predominantly a tourist island I really took my hat off to Persi and Fran’s awesome wedding planner, Aris, who had to set up each stage of the wedding as the tourists left for the day. It was such a pleasure to work with him and I can highly recommend Belli Momenti for anyone who would like to get married in Corfu!

 

We experienced so much over the course of the week in Corfu. From admiring crystal clear water, being left speechless by beautiful views, crying with laughter (mostly at Fran’s jokes), screaming in terror (when we got lost and had to navigate the islands ‘back-roads’, which should rather be referred to as ‘paths-less-used’… a story for another day!). But we honestly enjoyed every second of this epic journey! Pers and Fran, I can’t thank you two enough for putting your faith in me and allowing Justin and I to fly across the world to document your stunning wedding. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
